Troubled Oakland Raiders linebacker Aldon Smith is losing supporters by the day, but fellow teammate Bruce Irvin is standing by his side.

Between a domestic incident in which police were called out to his house to his recent public intoxication episode, Oakland Raiders linebacker Aldon Smith is making it difficult to stand by his side. But Bruce Irvin is doing just that.

In a post on his Instagram account, Bruce posted a picture and some words in support of Aldon.

This was a fantastic display of compassion by Bruce, and this type of support and friendship is exactly what Aldon needs in order to get on track.

The NFL rule of Aldon being unable to see his teammates, although understandable for disciplinary reasons, has its downside. Such as when a player is truly in need of rehabilitation, such as Aldon, that player is not able to have the support system he needs.

It doesn’t seem likely that this rule will change, and Aldon does have to show some accountability, but it would be nice to see a modification of the rule. Perhaps just let him go to the facility if suspended. Don’t have to let him practice or anything beyond that…just let the player be at the team facility.

Anyway, shoutout to Bruce Irvin for showing support for a player who clearly needs it, when many are doing the opposite.
