A 7-round NFL Mock Draft for the Oakland Raiders.

More than two weeks through free agency, the Oakland Raiders were able to fill some needs, but still have some significant weaknesses that need to be addressed if they plan on competing for a Super Bowl in 2017.

The NFL Draft has turned into one of Reggie McKenzie’s specialties, and has become something all of Raiders fans look forward to this time of year.

Here’s a 7-round Oakland Raiders Mock Draft.

1st Round

Obi Melifonwu, Safety, UConn

With the 24th pick in the draft, the Raiders should select safety Obi Melifonwu out of UConn, if he’s available. This selection would help the Raiders secondary immensely, and could form one of the better young safety duo’s in the league alongside Karl Joseph.

As a four-year starter for the Huskies, Obi stuffed the stat sheet in a multitude of ways. He had a total of 349 tackles, 8 interceptions, 16 passes defensed, 2 forced fumbles, and 2 fumble recoveries in his collegiate career. Obi particularly stood out his senior year, earning All-ACC honors, and it landed him in the mix as being one of the better defensive backs in a loaded draft class.

Obi really vaulted his draft status when he put up all-world numbers at the NFL Combine.

The 6’4″ 224 lb. safety made a name for himself, and most definitely put his name in a conversation as being a first round pick.

Just Blog Baby’s very own Ted Nguyen did an excellent breakdown on Melifonwu, as you can see below.

As you can see, Obi possesses special ability, and it would be very hard to pass on him considering how horrid the Raiders defense was this past season. He would be a welcomed addition the Raiders defense, and would be a no-brainer at pick #24.

2nd Round

Jarrad Davis, LB, Florida

In the 2nd round, an ideal pick for the Raiders would be Jarrad Davis, linebacker out of Florida. As we all know, the Raiders’ linebacker core was probably the worst unit on the entire team. Adding a player of Davis’ caliber would shore up the middle, and add a vital piece that the defense has been missing.

Davis was a four-year player at Florida, and he produced in a few different ways. In total, Davis had 201 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 1 interception, 9 passes defensed, and 2 forced fumbles during his time at Florida. One stat that might concern some is that Davis has only started a full season of games once. He played through injuries his senior year, which limited his overall production.

Listed at 6’1″ and 238 lbs., Davis has ideal size for an inside linebacker, and has been touted as having an impressive work ethic and leadership abilities. That is something the Raiders defense could definitely use.

It would be nice to see a blue chip prospect like Reuben Foster or Haason Reddick fall to the Raiders in the 1st round. Those prospects more than likely will be gone before the Raiders pick, so Davis would be the next best option for the Raiders in the 2nd round.
