5th Round
Aviante Collins, OT, TCU
To add more depth to the offensive line, the Raiders should consider Aviante Collins out of TCU in the 5th round. Collins started all 13 games his senior year, and has experience at both right and left tackle.
Collins is a bit undersized at only 295 lbs., but has been praised for his above average athleticism, and his solid footwork. Collins would not be asked to come in right away and start on the offensive line, but he would add some much needed depth with the departure of Menelik Watson, and the fact that Donald Penn is not getting any younger.
Collins impressed at the combine by running a 4.81 40-yard dash, and also tallied 34 reps on the bench press. Drafting offensive linemen does not rile up the casual fan, but the diehards know that adding depth to your offensive line is a major key to success. Aviante Collins might just be the guy to draft on day three.
6th Round
DeAngelo Brown, DT, Louisville
Another day three player that the Raiders should target is defensive tackle Deangelo Brown, out of Louisville. For his college career, Brown had a total of 107 tackles, 5 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 forced fumble.
Brown has been characterized as a nose tackle who can play in either a 3-4 or a 4-3 defense. Brown is listed at 318 lbs., so you know he is a guy that will take up some space in the middle, and has the ability to draw double teams, which would help free up other pass rushers.
As we all know, the Raiders lacked a pass rush up the middle. Brown could be the guy you can throw in along with Mario Edwards Jr., and Darius Latham in that defensive tackle rotation. The Raiders will need to address this need, and DeAngelo Brown would be a solid day three addition.
7th Round
Jeremy Sprinkle, TE, Arkansas
When the Raiders signed Jared Cook, it appeared that the tight end position was addressed, but I would still think otherwise. If you have been keeping an eye on Lee Smith’s contract, it is due to be up after 2017. The Raiders will need a blocking tight end, and they might have that guy in Jeremy Sprinkle out of Arkansas.
Sprinkle has gained a reputation as an exceptional blocking tight end, but also possesses some receiving ability. For his college career, he had 71 receptions for 921 yards, but was used as a primary red zone target with 11 touchdowns.
Just Blog Baby’s own Maliik Obee put together a great breakdown of Sprinkle.
7th Round (from Seattle)
Blair Brown, LB, Ohio
With the Raiders last selection in the draft, they should target linebacker Blair Brown, out of Ohio. For his college career, Brown had 266 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 3 passes defensed, and 2 forced fumbles.
Brown is another player you would not want to come in and start right away, but he would instead be a depth piece at linebacker. With the departure of players like Brynden Trawick and Daren Bates, the Raiders will need to reload on special teams, and Brown could be a quality replacement.
Although Blair is a bit undersized at only 5’11”, he has been known as having a nose for the football, and is a very efficient tackler.
