Round 7 – 242nd Overall
Only two more picks to go, as the Raiders own two of them in the seventh round. Ideally, adding a safety and/or a wide receiver and running back is the goal.
The pick: Tedric Thompson, S, Colorado.
In the seventh, Tedric Thompson, a favorite of our very own Ryan Lopes, is the guy. He has some of the best ball skills in this class among the safeties, with 7 interceptions and an additional 16 pass breakups in his collegiate career.

Finding a safety this late who can turn the ball over at the rate Thompson does would be a coup. However, there are legitimate concerns about his tackling ability. He’ll need to come a long way in this regard, but if he can manage to be sufficient here, he’ll be a quality starter.
Other players considered: Devonte Fields, Chris Carson, Damore’ea Stringfellow, Joe Williams, Bryan Cox, Fish Smithson.
With only one pick in between Oakland’s final pick of the draft, we’ll likely have our pick of all of the above names.
Round 7 – 244th Overall
The pick: Chris Carson, RB, Oklahoma State.
With the final pick of the draft for the Raiders, we land an athletic running back out of Oklahoma State. At 6’0″ and 218 pounds, he tested as one of the most impressive athletes among the running backs at the combine.
WHAT. A. RUN. Chris Carson everybody. #DraftTwitter pic.twitter.com/2JQM0niZi0

Carson is a balanced back with zero career fumbles, which is quite notable. He finishes runs with authority and always keeps his legs churning.
Chris Carson again. Physical runner. Runs with excellent pad level. #DraftTwitter pic.twitter.com/MOZupBWQf3

He runs high and his initial burst only seems average, so he likely won’t be an every down back. And despite his athleticism, the amount of big runs he broke in college were few and far between.

Other players considered: Devonte Fields, Damore’ea Stringfellow, Joe Williams, Bryan Cox, Fish Smithson.
Stringfellow was the other player that was mostly considered, but the Raiders have Jaydon Mickens and K.J. Brent already in the mix behind Johnny Holton, adding another wide receiver didn’t make much sense.
In regard to Carson, he’s a player that the team can stash on the practice squad for a year, and then bring him up to the show after that, if he makes the needed improvements.
