Round 6 – Eric Saubert, Drake

At the Combine, Saubert checked in at 6’5″ and 253 pounds. He didn’t participate in any of the running drills, but his bench, broad jump, hand size and arm length were all above average.

As a small school prospect, Saubert did exactly what you hope an NFL hopeful from a lower conference would do, and that’s dominate his competition. He posted a ridiculous 17 touchdown receptions over his two seasons at Drake, using his physical traits to bully his way to pay dirt.

For the most part, Saubert needs to get more consistent in basically every facet of his game. He’ll flash route running, pass catching and blocking ability one game, and then be awful in each of those areas the next game.

But the physical tools are there. He’s basically a mold of clay that with refinement and coaching, could be a nice player in the NFL.

The big problem with Saubert is drops. It’s an area he has major problems with, which is a big reason why he’s a projected late round pick. But he checks a lot of the other boxes, and if he can clean up the drops, he’ll have a productive career.
