Honorable Mentions
The honorable mentions are players at positions that I’m not confident McKenzie picks in the final four rounds — RB, WR, TE, OG, S. But just in case he does, these will be the players at those positions that best fit Reggie’s mold.
The honorable mentions also include some players that could be selected who don’t have athletic testing, so I’m not able to say if they reach the thresholds or not. Players like Jalen Reeves-Maybin, Dylan Cole, Claude George and Ishmael Zamora, who were either injured or not invited to the combine.
Round 4
Jeremy McNichols, RB, Boise State – The only RB in this class that met/exceeded every McKenzie threshold for the position. He’s officially an underclassman, but he played three years at Boise State.
Chad Hansen, WR, Cal – Missed the weight threshold by nine pounds and the bench press reps by six.
Bucky Hodges, TE, Virginia Tech – His hand size measured at 9 3/4″ and the McKenzie threshold for wide receiver hand size is 10″. He did not complete the 3-cone.
Jordan Leggett, TE, Clemson – Checks all of the boxes that he tested in. He did not complete the 40-yard dash.
Elijah Qualls, DT, Washington – His arm length measured at 30 5/8″ and the McKenzie threshold for defensive tackle arm length is 33″. He is an underclassman, but he played three years in college.
Jalen Reeves-Maybin, ILB, Tennessee – Listed as an honorable mention because he did not test at the NFL Combine, and I didn’t use Pro Day numbers in my research because I wanted to keep all of my data uniform.
But if I were to plug in his Pro Day results, he would check every single box for McKenzie’s linebacker thresholds. The only unknown is his bench press. Most outlets have his draft stock between Round 6 to UDFA, but that was before his Pro Day. He’s a legitimate option.
Round 5
Jeremy Sprinkle, TE, Arkansas – Failed the vertical jump threshold by two inches. He did not complete the bench press, 3-cone or 20-yard shuttle.
D.J. Jones, DT, Mississippi – His arm length measured at 32 1/2″ and the McKenzie threshold for defensive tackle arm length is 33″.
Dylan Cole, OLB, Missouri State – Cole wasn’t invited to the NFL Combine, but he lit up his Pro Day. If those numbers were plugged in, he would easily reach 100% of the thresholds.
Rayshawn Jenkins, S, Miami – Only failed the 40-yard dash threshold by 0.01 seconds. He did not complete the 3-cone or 20-yard shuttle.
Round 6
Robert Davis, WR, Georgia State – His hand size is measured at 9 5/8″ and the McKenzie threshold for wide receiver hand size is 10″.
Eric Saubert, TE, Drake – Checks all of the boxes that he tested in. He did not complete the 40-yard dash, 3-cone or 20-yard shuttle.
Vincent Taylor, NT, Oklahoma State – Only missed the weight threshold by four pounds. He is officially an underclassman, but he played three years in college.
Ishamel Zamora, WR, Baylor – A talented wide receiver that was not invited to the NFL Combine following a situation in which video shows him abusing a dog. McKenzie has proven he’ll take players with off-field trouble late, so Zamora can’t be ruled out.
Round 7
Christopher Carson, RB, Oklahoma State – Failed the 40-yard dash threshold by 0.09 seconds. He did not complete the 3-cone or 20-yard shuttle.
UDFA
Bug Howard, WR, North Carolina – Failed the 40-yard dash threshold by 0.04 seconds. He did not complete the bench press.
Darrell Daniels, TE, Washington – Reaches 100% of the thresholds, including being a team captain.
Montae Nicholson, S, Michigan State – Checks all of the boxes that he tested in. He did not complete the bench press, 3-cone or 20-yard shuttle.
Claude George, ILB, Texas A&M – Not invited to the NFL Combine, but using his Pro Day numbers, the only threshold he would fail is the 40-yard dash by 0.01 seconds.
Must Read: Predicting Reggie McKenzie's Big Board
Since I didn’t use Pro Day data, there are surely combine snubs or players who didn’t test at the combine but did test at their pro day and have sufficient numbers. But I unfortunately won’t be able to mention them since I don’t have that data compiled.
So if any players get picked that I don’t have listed, that’s likely the reason. Or another possibility is there are players who were injured and didn’t test at the combine nor their pro day, like Karl Joseph last year.
