Tight End – Dave Casper
Dave “The Ghost” Casper is a household name in football lore, as he is both an inductee of the Pro Football Hall of Fame as well as the College Football Hall of Fame. He’s also a household name in Raiders history, as he is arguably the team’s greatest ever tight end, and an easy choice for this spot on the All-Decade Team.
As the 45th overall selection in the 1974 NFL Draft, Casper played for the Oakland Raiders from 1974 to 1980. He came back to the Raiders for one final season in 1984, after the team had relocated to Los Angeles.
The former second round pick out of Notre Dame earned five consecutive selections, with four of them to end the decade. He also earned first-team All-Pro recognition in each of those seasons. As a key member of the 1976-’77 Super Bowl Team, Casper caught 4 passes for 70 yards and a touchdown in the team’s first ever championship victory.
For his career, Casper had 52 touchdowns, with most of those coming in the 70’s. In his final four seasons of the decade, he averaged 55 catches for 725 yards, and was a consistent, productive presence at tight end. Not to mention the famous “Ghost in the Post” play, Casper is a must to include on any list when talking about the best players in team history.
