I’m a bit of a purist when it comes to numbers on the offensive line; 70’s belong on OT’s, 60’s on guards and 50’s on centers. That being said, certain players have been exceptions to the rule, such as Kelechi Osemele and Rodney Hudson being two of the more notable ones.

Jylan Ware, who wore 79 in college, is hoping to do his best to continue to buck this trend. While he takes the jersey of a player known more for his mental mistakes than his blocking prowess in Khalil Barnes, Ware looks the part of a franchise tackle with a high ceiling that is hard to find in late-round picks.

At 6’7″ and 317 hailing from Alabama State University, Ware is an athletic marvel who toyed with defenders at times at the D-IAA level. While 69 (nice) isn’t traditionally an elite offensive tackle number, players like David Bhaktiari of Green Bay have carved out a degree of excellence for a traditionally lesser number.

Here’s to hoping Ware can be groomed under Donald Penn and create his own legacy with the number in the near future.
