6th – David Sharpe – No. 71

This is where thing begin to get fun. It’s as if there’s a clear separation of tiers between decent number choices and upper tier to elite choices.

While not as good of a choice as the 78 he wore in college, falling on the lower end of upper tier, 71 is still a fantastic number choice for an offensive tackle. With his position versatility and a mauling nature, it was an ideal choice for the rookie from Florida who hopes to make an immediate impact at right tackle in his first season in Oakland.

With such all-time greats as Walter Jones having rocked the number 71 throughout their careers as well, Sharpe made an ideal jersey choice and set himself well onto the path towards greatness.

5th – Eddie Vanderdoes – No. 94

As previously mentioned, this is where things begin to get difficult. No. 94 is absolutely a fantastic choice for a defensive lineman, but only ranks fifth within the scope of the Raiders draft class due to some other elite number choices by the draftees yet to be named.

My only knock on the number is that it’s known more as a pass rusher number than a dominating interior presence. Popularized by the likes of Charles Haley, Mario Williams, Robert Quinn, and Cam Jordan, the number 94 is aesthetically pleasing and a traditionally strong choice.

While it remains to be seen whether or not Vanderdoes can develop himself into a solid pass rusher, his choice of jersey number gives a strong start to a promising career.
