#3 – Marcus Allen

Former Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Allen checks in as the third best first round pick in franchise history. Following a highly successful college career, Allen was drafted 10th overall by the Raiders in the 1982 NFL Draft, and went on to enjoy an equally successful NFL career.

Allen became one of the most productive running backs of his time, and is widely considered the best running back in the history of the Raiders. In addition to being the Raiders all-time rushing leader at 8,545 yards, he scored 79 total touchdowns in his career. During his 11 seasons with the Raiders, he was named to the Pro Bowl five times and an All-Pro three times. He won the Offensive Rookie of the Year award in 1982.

Allen went on to win the MVP in 1985, his best season as a pro. He ran for 1,759 yards, which to this day is the most rushing yards in a single season in franchise history. Allen etched his name into Raiders greatness when he led the team to victory in Super Bowl XVIII, earning MVP honors thanks to a performance that yielded 191 rushing yards, including an iconic 74-yard touchdown run every Raiders fan knows well.

Allen retired as 6th on the NFL’s all-time rushing list, and to this day, he still stands at 13th. He also became the first player ever to run for 10,000 yards and receiver for an additional 5,000.
