Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch made a surprise appearance at the podium following Tuesday’s practice, and he didn’t disappoint.

Marshawn Lynch is known for a lot of things, and his dismay and disinterest in speaking with the media is certainly one of those things. But playing for his hometown Oakland Raiders, Marshawn might be turning over a new leaf. He made a surprise appearance on the podium following Tuesday’s practice, and he didn’t disappoint with his comments.

When asked about coming back to play for a talented, up and coming team like the Raiders, Marshawn responded by saying that his decision had more to do with playing for his hometown:

"“I got the whole town, you feel me though, riding with me,” Lynch said. “That’s good what they got going on, all that good [expletive] like you said, but I have a whole, new Oakland behind me, and the way we feel just about where we’re from, why we represent where we’re from so hard is because we know what the struggle is, and how we get down.”"

Lynch continued:

"“It ain’t like I’m saying, ‘I’m coming to y’all’s city and I’m going to ride with y’all.’ This is actually, I’m born and raised, bred, pissing in them hallways and running down them alleyways, I really did that right here. And now I get an opportunity to play here.”“So all of that you said is great and that’s good but this is more for, like, Oakland, though.”"

As you’ll see, “Oakland” was the theme of his media session, and he continued to show pride in his hometown with each answer that he provided. On what it meant to him to be playing in Oakland:

"“It’s always been something, being from Oakland you want to play at home, and have the opportunity. Maybe them [the Raiders] staying wouldn’t have been such a big thing for me to come and want to play. Knowing that they was leaving, a lot of the kids probably won’t have an opportunity to see most of their idols growing up being in the hometown no more. With me being from here, and continuing to be here, it gives them an opportunity that they get to see somebody that actually did it from where they from, and for the team they probably idolize.”“Just to play in Oakland, [expletive] like a dream come true, or something like that.”"

When asked about the support he’s received from Raider Nation:

"“To be honest, it was heartfelt, but then, at the end of the day, I still walk outside, so besides the billboards and all of that, I really just get out with the people,” Lynch said. “The billboards are for the commercial people, but when you get outside, and you walk in the cracks, you get to find out what’s real.”"

And one more quote about Oakland, and playing in front of his community:

"“The way we feel about where we from and why we represent where we from hard is because we know what the struggle is, and how we get down. So every home game I get to come to this [expletive] I’m probably going to be riding with the whole town.”"

The Raiders posted video of his media session on their official Twitter account:

The whole thing is definitely worth your time, as his appearances in the media will likely be few and far between. Plus, it’s great to see and hear his passion, as the fans can rest assured he is going to leave everything he has on the field.
