4. Khalil Mack fools Taylor Lewan to bring down DeMarco Murray
It may go down as a big play in an underrated moment in the game for the Raiders’ defense. Oakland may have led the Titans 13-10 at the half, but Tennessee would begin the second half with the ball. Tennessee would convert its a first down within three plays of the Giorgio Tavecchio touchback.
The Titans were moving the ball methodically to begin the half with nothing too overly complex. Mariota would complete a four-yard pass to running back DeMarco Murray a few yards shy of midfield. That would bring up a second and six with Oakland in need of a big defensive play to slow down the Titans’ attack.
The Raiders would get it on this great read by defensive end Khalil Mack. He would hesitate ever so slightly to pull off a powerful swim move inside of Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan to bring down Murray for a two-yard loss.
It was a play that Lewan, an excellent left tackle in this league, looked completely dumbfounded. Usually Mack lines up on the other side of the field, but was able to mix-up Lewan just enough for the big play in the Titans backfield. Mariota would miss his pass on third-and-long on the next play. The Titans would punt and only added one Succop field goal the rest of the game.
