Oakland Raiders: 5 keys to victory vs. Denver Broncos
By John Buhler
Win on third down
What saw the game really get out of hand for the Raiders last week was on third down. The Redskins’ offense sliced and diced the Oakland secondary on several third down opportunities. Conversely, Oakland could not convert on third down all night. The Raiders had just one conversion on fourth down in a series of great desperation.
Though they can’t win them all, Oakland cannot go 0-for on third down conversions in Week 4 to have any shot at beating the Broncos at Mile High. Oakland doesn’t just have to move the sticks through the air, the Raiders can do so on the ground.
It will be loud at Mile High, so the Raiders need to come in with a great deal of focus for this game. Carr cannot get quick-snapped in the ‘gun like the three times he did in Washington. This Raiders offense is based on rhythm and timing, as well as Carr’s creativity in and around the pocket.
However, his team needs to play with discipline on both sides of the ball on third down. Stopping the Broncos offense might be an easier time for Oakland. That being said, emphasizing the importance of winning on the third down on both sides of the ball will be key for a Raiders’ upset victory over Denver.
