Oakland Raiders at Denver Broncos: Highlights, recap, final score

The Oakland Raiders come up short against the Denver Broncos on Sunday afternoon in Week 4, 16-10. Here are all the highlights, the game recap and the final score.

Though the defense played better, the Oakland Raiders couldn’t get into offensive rhythm once again, as they drop their second straight game on the season. Oakland loses its first division game to the Denver Broncos 16-10 to fall to 2-2 on the year. Denver improves to 3-1 on the season.

Running the football was close to impossible for the Silver and Black, as the Raiders managed just 24 yards on 15 carries. The passing game was better, as it helped keep the Raiders in this game for as long as they could.

While he had a terrific 64-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Johnny Holton in the second quarter, Raiders quarterback Derek Carr would succumb to injury in the third quarter. He would take a knee in his back from Broncos defensive tackle Adam Gotsis while he was getting sacked. Carr got up on his own accord, albeit gingerly. He would head to the locker room and would not return.

Replacing Carr was his backup EJ Manuel. While it was tough sledding for Manuel to bring the Raiders back down nine in a defensive struggle, he nearly did in relief of Carr. Manuel would orchestrate a drive that resulted in a Giorgio Tavecchio field goal to make it 16-10 Broncos. The Oakland defense would hold its own on the next series, setting up a potential game-winning drive for Manuel with three minutes left.

While he made a few nice passes, getting picked off by Justin Simmons sealed the deal for the Broncos. Denver would then proceed into victory formation. One has to wonder if Oakland could have snuck this one out had Carr been able to play the entire game.

We’ll never know, but Oakland needs to turn the page and get ready for Week 5’s home game versus Baltimore. You hate to lose games like this. It does seem that the Raiders will have stiff competition in the AFC West this year with Denver and the Kansas City Chiefs. At least this was a better effort versus the Broncos than what we saw versus the Washington Redskins last week.

1. C.J. Anderson: Anderson had 20 rushes for 95 yards. He also had four catches for 17 yards.
2. Khalil Mack: Mack was sensational for the Raiders. He had seven tackles, all solo, four quarterback hits, three tackles for a loss of yardage and two quarterback sacks.
3. A.J. Derby: Derby had four catches for 75 yards and a touchdown.

The Raiders will host the Baltimore Ravens for a Sunday afternoon kickoff in Week 5. Kickoff from Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum will be at 1:05 p.m. PT on October 8. CBS will have the telecast.

Maybe the Raiders aren’t as good as we thought they were? At least Baltimore has been even worse the last two weeks. Oakland should be happy to get that putrid Ravens offense at home next week. Here’s to getting to 3-2 next week!
