Running the football isn’t the Raiders’ strength offensively, but it’s not exactly a weakness anymore. Last year, one could argue that it might have been the weakness, but not this year. That would be inconsistencies in the receiving game.

Oakland’s strength on offense is absolutely on the offensive line. Though the front-five is better at pass protection, the Raiders can move the sticks on the ground, particularly if they run off tackle. The Raiders have had three games where the team has rushed for over 100 yards.

Through five weeks, the Chargers have the worst run defense in football. This is two-fold. The first reason for this is that the Chargers lack great defensive personnel in the middle of their defense. The other could be attributed to being behind late in games, thus increasing the importance for the opposition to pound the rock to milk the clock.

With Los Angeles’ problems in run defense, the Raiders might be able to have more balance on offense than they have had in recent weeks. The Raiders offense is still struggling to find its identity under new offensive coordinator Todd Downing. Maybe this is the week he gets the most out of the Oakland offense?
