Only the Raiders can win in a shootout

Though it won’t likely come to it, only the Raiders can win a shootout in a head-to-head matchup with the Bills. Buffalo is very much a defensive-minded team. It works for them, as Sean McDermott is proving to be a sound head coach in his first year on the job.

However, the Bills aren’t going to put up 45 points on a defense in an absolute barn burner. Yes, the Raiders defense loves to give up points in bunches, but Buffalo doesn’t have the receiving weapons for quarterback Tyrod Taylor to throw to for the Bills to win a shootout.

Factor in the weather in Western New York and we’re not going to see Buffalo march up and down the field on Oakland. It’s just not the Bills’ style as the team is currently constructed. In essence, every touchdown the Bills score on offense is precious, while the Raiders can go get another one if need by with Derek Carr at quarterback.

Basically, if Todd Downing needs Carr to become a gunslinger to win this highly competitive game in Orchard Park, he will let the Raiders quarterback do his thing. However, Rick Dennison might be reluctant to see Taylor embrace a gunslinger role in this game. If so, it would be a great time for the Raiders to have their first interception of the season.
