5 Oakland Raiders to watch vs. Philadelphia Eagles in Week 16

We’ve already mentioned that super-sub Vadal Alexander will be thrust into duty to play right tackle the rest of the way for the Silver and Black. But who will be replacing Donald Penn on the outside at left tackle? You guess it, Marshall Newhouse.

Newhouse is in his first year with the Raiders, starting at right tackle for Oakland. It has not been a position that Oakland has been able to figure out these last few years. Frankly, it doesn’t help that Newhouse and right guard Gabe Jackson have played through injuries all season. The right side of the Raiders’ offensive is significantly weaker than its superior left.

Well, it will be more even the rest of the way with Newhouse going to the other side and Alexander playing right tackle. Though this could be a terrifying reality for some Raiders fans, keep in mind that this offensive line will resemble what it looked liked during training camp and the first two preseason games. Alexander and Newhouse as the bookends wasn’t exactly a horrible combination either.

Newhouse will have to deal with Vinny Curry on Monday night and the Chargers’ pass-rushing duo of Bosa and Ingram in the final two weeks. He may not have been all that great at right tackle, but it’ll be interesting to see how Newhouse will hold up protecting Derek Carr‘s blind side the rest of the way.
