Oakland Raiders 2018 NFL Mock Draft: Wild Card Weekend
By John Buhler
Though the Raiders already have two outstanding pass rushers in Khalil Mack and Bruce Irvin, there is no reason to not grab Oklahoma Sooners defensive end Ogbonnia Okoronkwo with the No. 41 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. He was the best player on an Oklahoma defense that made it to the Rose Bowl in the 2018 College Football Playoff.
In his senior season in Norman, Okoronkwo was an All-American and 2017 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year for the Sooners. He finished his senior campaign at Oklahoma with 75 total tackles (47 solo, 28 assists) in 14 games with 17.0 tackles for a loss of yardage, 8.0 quarterback sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two pass breakups.
During his four years with the Sooners, Okoronkwo won the Big 12 three times and played in the College Football Playoff twice. He finished his Oklahoma career with 162 total tackles (105 solo, 57 assists) in 35 games with 33.0 tackles for a loss of yardage, 20.0 quarterback sacks, five forced fumbles, five pass breakups and two fumble recoveries.
At 6-foot-1, 240 pounds, Okoronkwo could have the agility to be a playmaker off the edge for the Raiders for sure. Though he played sparingly in his first two years in Norman, he ended up being one of the best defensive players the Sooners have had in years. Simply put, the guy is a gamer and will find ways to be most impactful even if it doesn’t show up on the stat sheet.
