Oakland Raiders: 5 backup quarterbacks to target in free agency

It would be fantastic if the Raiders were able to land Matt Moore as Derek Carr’s backup in 2018 free agency. Moore has long been considered one of the top-five backups in football. He was key in the Miami Dolphins being able to get back to the AFC playoffs in 2016 once Ryan Tannehill went down with a knee injury.
Moore has been with the Dolphins since 2011, so prying him away from Florida could prove as difficult as it would in getting Chad Henne to leave the Jacksonville Jaguars. Could you blame him? Make a couple of million in a state with great weather and no-state income tax. Sign me up!
In a chaotic Dolphins organization, one could argue that Moore has been a rare model of consistency. We know that he is going to be a high-end backup in this league, possibly even better than Tannehill and Jay Cutler in some days. However, his reputation as an elite backup could prove a bit pricey. Would he even want to leave Miami to be in Oakland for a year or two anyway? Who is to say he’ll still be in the league when the team moves to Las Vegas?
The biggest reasons that the Raiders should look to sign Moore in free agency are that he is better than Manuel and that he can win games should Carr succumb to injury. Moore may not be a long-term solution at the position, but the Raiders will still have a decent chance to win with Moore as Carr’s backup. However, he might be too pricey for what the Raiders are looking for. Taxes are brutal.
