2018 Raiders NFL Draft: 5 CBs to target in first two rounds
By Brad Weiss
During his time at UCF, Mike Hughes made the most of his only season with the program. Hughes became the first player in school history to return a punt, kick, and interception back for a touchdown in a single season, leaving his mark in the record books.
Hughes began his college career at the University of North Carolina, but was kicked off the team due to some off-the-field issues. After playing at the Community College level, Hughes returned to the FBS with UCF. He helped lead the team to an undefeated season, and could find himself drafted in the first two rounds in April.
One of the more versatile players in this draft class, some experts have Hughes going as high as No. 13 in April, but some have him falling to the second round. That is where the Raiders should pick him up, if he actually falls to them at No. 41 overall.
At 5-foot-11, 191 pounds, Hughes is actually a very good press cornerback. He did not tear up the NFL Scouting Combine, but his 4.53 40-yard dash time, to go along with his 20 reps of 225 on the bench press, should enable him to be picked within the first 50 selections.
He has the talent you look for in a cornerback, and while he is likely never going to be a CB1, he could fit nicely as the starter alongside Gareon Conley next season in Oakland.
