2018 Raiders NFL Draft: Top 5 first round draft picks the last ten years
1. Khalil Mack, 2014 NFL Draft
Pass rusher Khalil Mack out of the University of Buffalo has been one of the best Raiders draft picks in recent memories. One of the knocks on Mack entering the draft was that he came from a small school, as if that had anything to do with his skill set.
That’s probably why he fell to the Raiders at number five and general manager Reggie McKenzie was more than happy to take him.
Since entering the league, Mack has established as a top-5 defensive player. He started out slow his rookie year, but has since dominated every offensive tackle he’s come across.
Mack is the Raiders’ best player they have drafted in the first round since cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. Before that, it was the legend Charles Woodson.
All three players spent a great time as a Raider and were one of, if not the best at their position during their tenure at some point. From that standpoint, the Raiders have scored more on defensive players in the first round, than offensive players.
General manager Reggie McKenzie has to do whatever he can to retain the beast that is Khalil Mack going forward, as he is the anchor of their defense.
