
With a pretty well-rounded roster already in place, the Chargers were really in the best player available situation. Well, they hit it big time as they probably landed the best defensive back prospect in the draft with Derwin James from Florida State.
This was one of the more surprising slides, as James was one the biggest winners of the pre-draft process. After blowing up the combine, James’ name was rumored to go as high up as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at No. 7 overall.
However, after a few trades, and probably a few reaches from other teams, he fell into the waiting arms of the Los Angeles Chargers.
James is a hybrid safety who can play in the box along with providing coverage in the slot. With offenses doing everything they can to create mismatches in the passing game, James is the kryptonite.

He can match up with everything from big tight ends to shifty slot receivers. This could end up being one of the great steals of this draft for Los Angeles, who many like to win the AFC West this upcoming season.
