Quarterbacks

Derek Carr, E.J. Manuel

We kick things off with the quarterback group, which has a clear player at the top of the depth chart. Derek Carr will start his fifth season opener in Week 1, when the team plays host to the Los Angeles Rams.

During his short NFL career, Carr has established himself as one of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL. Last season, Carr and the rest of the offense took a step back, but he will likely get things back on track in 2018.

The biggest reasons for an uptick in production for Carr this season will be the addition of Jordy Nelson and Martavis Bryant to the wide receiver group, and a new offensive coordinator. Greg Olson takes over for Todd Downing, who should have never been given the keys to this expensive automobile.

When it comes to Carr’s backup, there is a good chance that the Raiders only roll with two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster to open the season. They brought E.J. Manuel back for a reason, and even though Jon Gruden loved Connor Cook in college, he may not have a spot as a third quarterback on this roster.
