Nickel cornerback?

The cornerback position was an absolute joke for the Raiders last season, and most of the main culprits of the bad play are gone. Sean Smith is in jail, and David Amerson is in Kansas City, while T.J. Carrie is currently playing for the Cleveland Browns.

Carrie was the silver lining of the position group last season, serving as the team’s third cornerback. That job is up for grabs this summer, and the Raiders have plenty of players vying for that last starting spot on this defense.

Heading into training camp, the rumblings around the organization are that Leon Hall will go into Napa as the nickel. However, guys like Shareece Wright, Daryl Worley, Nick Nelson, and Dexter McDonald are game to try and grab the nickel spot. Wright is going to get the next look after Hall, but it is a spot that is really up in the air.

Hall is a pretty old player, and while he did play with Guenther in Cincinnati, it would be a shock if he was the starting nickel in 2018. Worley has the talent to be a starter in the league, but is not really suited for the nickel, so keep an eye on this spot on the depth chart as we start getting closer to the first preseason games.
