Oakland Raiders: Recapping the 2018 offseason
By Brad Weiss
Still no new contract for Khalil Mack
When the Oakland Raiders drafted Khalil Mack in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, they were picking a player from a school not known for football. Mack played at the University of Buffalo, and while they are not a powerhouse program by any means, the linebacker was still rated as one of the best players in the draft.
When Mack was done at Buffalo, he had set the NCAA record for career forced fumbles with 16, and his 75 tackles for a loss are tied for first ever. Since coming into the NFL, Mack has not slowed down one bit, making the Pro Bowl three times, and being named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2016.
There is no question that Mack is one of the best players in the NFL, and in fact, many believe he is the best defensive player there is. However, he has yet to step on the field this offseason, thanks to the fact that he is looking for a new deal, and the two sides have yet to come to an agreement on one.
The Raiders are going to get this done, as you cannot believe they will make the move to Las Vegas without a generational talent like Mack leading the defense. He is going to be wearing a gold jacket one day, and the hope is he can spend his entire career in the Silver and Black.
