2018 Oakland Raiders Training Camp: Five burning questions on offense
By Brad Weiss
Will DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard make the team?
Both Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington came into the NFL together, and through their first few seasons in the league, they have really contributed to the Raiders success. However, the running back position in Oakland is suddenly a crowded spot, and both of them may not make the 2018 roster.
This offseason, the Raiders brought in Doug Martin from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who looks very good so far during his time with the team. He is expected to be the No. 2 back behind Marshawn Lynch this season, leaving only one spot left in the backfield heading into Week 1.
While Richard and Washington have both done nice things with the Raiders, they are going to be battling each other all summer long. Of course, they are also both very useful in the return game, but you have to think Ryan Switzer was traded for to handle those duties this season, as well as free agent Dwayne Harris.
Heading into camp, my belief is Richard has a slight edge over Washington, but him making the team will hinge on him holding onto the ball. He struggled with the fumbles last season, and a guy like Gruden is not going to stand for that when it comes to him making his final 53-man roster.
