28. . 1998-01, 2018-present Record: 38-26. . Jon Gruden. 3. team

Jon Gruden became the head coach of the Oakland Raiders back in 1998, and his job was to get the team out of the cellar in the division. Gruden led the Raiders to an 8-8 record in his first season as the team’s head coach, and would be all uphill from there.

The Raiders brought in quarterback Rich Gannon in 1999, and the marriage between him and Gruden proved to be a perfect one. The Raiders went 12-4 in 2000, and won the AFC West division for the first time in over a decade. They would go on to lose in the AFC title game that season, but Gruden had brought the Raiders back to the top of the AFC.

In 2001, the Raiders once again looked like a Super Bowl contender, but would see their season end on a bogus call against the New England Patriots in the Divisional Round. That would be Gruden’s last game as head coach of the team, as he was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the offseason.

In a horrible twist of fate, Gruden would play the Raiders in the Super Bowl the following season, throttling Gannon and company by the score of 48-21. During his first run with the Raiders, Gruden put together a record of 40-28, and he will get to add to that mark in 2018.

Gruden returns to the Raiders for the 2018 season, and the expectation is he can lead them back to being a force in the AFC. He has already begun shaping the roster in his own image, and with some very talented players on both sides of the ball, he should be able to get the Raiders back to the top of the mountain in a very tough AFC West
