The running back battle

Heading into training camp, the depth chart was supposed to start with Marshawn Lynch, with Doug Martin filling in as the No. 2 back. The battle for the third spot was supposed to be between Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington, two players who came into the league together, and have had a role in the offense the last two years.

However, on Friday night, a new face emerged in the battle for a spot on the 53-man roster, and that was undrafted free agent Chris Warren III. The son of former Seattle Seahawks back Chris Warren Jr., the younger Warren led the Raiders in rushing yards, showing a strong blend of speed and power in his debut.

Washington ran the ball well also, and Richard got involved in the passing game. The Raiders could end up keeping five running backs, including fullback Keith Smith, but the odds are they are going to have to make a very tough decision before the Raiders Week 1 matchup against the Rams.

Warren may be too good to pass up, and while we have not seen much from Martin in game action, he has been amazing during camp. This position group is going to be a joy to watch all summer, and the journey continues on Saturday.
