LB James Cowser

James Cowser was not expected to be a member of the 53-man roster when camp kicked off, but he has certainly looked the part throughout the summer. Cowser has moved past people on the depth chart, and is really coming into his own in his third season in the NFL.

This preseason, he has not only been one of the best linebackers on the Raiders, but in the entire NFL, and has really impressed the coaching staff. Jon Gruden called Cowser “our kind of guy,” which is high praise from a head coach who has won a Super Bowl ring.

All this kid has done all summer is make plays, and it is going to be very hard to keep him off the 53-man roster. He is going to get a lot of run on Thursday night, but like he has through the first three preseason games, Cowser is going to cement his spot on this team moving forward.

The Raiders 53-man roster needs to be set by 4pm ET on September 1, so that gives the team two days to finalize the regular season team after the Seahawks game. Most of the roster is set, but for these three guys, one more solid effort should solidify their place on the roster heading into Week 1.
