Raiders 53-man roster projection after the preseason finale
By Brad Weiss
Quarterback (2): Derek Carr, EJ Manuel
The Raiders figure to only open up the 2018 season with two quarterbacks, and only one of them is a lock to make the 53-man roster. Derek Carr is charging up the Raiders record books, and with Gruden and new offensive coordinator Greg Olson in the fold, he is bound for a monster season in year five.
When it comes to the backup job, the battle between EJ Manuel and Connor Cook has been pretty terrible this summer. Neither signal-caller has stepped up and taken the reins, and it will be interesting to see if either of them are on the 53-man roster when the team welcomes the Rams to town in ten days.
Cook has been the favorite all summer, serving as the No. 2 behind Carr, but Manuel got the start against the Rams, and really took advantage of his opportunity. However, there are going to be some experienced quarterbacks on the market when the cuts come on Saturday, and the real backup for this team may not even be on the roster right now.
