Carr is mastering Gruden’s offense
One of the bigger stories after Jon Gruden got the Raiders head coaching job was how he would team with Derek Carr. During the summer, the two were inseparable, as Carr learned Gruden’s intricate offense, and the expectations were pretty high going into the season opener against Los Angeles.
The fifth-year starter struggled in Week 1, tossing three interceptions, and was criticized for not taking enough shots downfield. He responded in a big way on Sunday, picking apart the Broncos defense, and nearly leading the Raiders to a road win inside the building where he had his back broken last season.
Carr’s performance on Sunday was historic, as he became the only player in history to complete 90 percent of his passes while attempting 30 or more throws. He took a lot of flack heading into the Denver game, but he silenced his critics on Sunday, and became the fastest Raiders quarterback to 15,000 yards in the process.
