Decision making is key

Hot off of Jordy Nelson’s first receiving touchdown, the Raiders had a chance to pile on the points and go up by two touchdowns at Miami’s one-yard line. With fourth-and-one staring them in the face, Jon Gruden decided to go for it. In the backfield was Marshawn Lynch, but as Carr took the snap instead it was Keith Smith who took the hand off only to get stuffed at the goal line. Instead of coming away with a touchdown or a field goal nonetheless the Raiders walked off the field empty-handed, a seven point swing for Miami that kept them within a one possession game.

Decision making errors like these can come back to haunt you in the end and if you’re going to take a risk on fourth and one it better be well thought out and a surefire successful play. The defense has areas to improve, the offense must play better and be consistent, and the same can be said for the man at the helm of the play calling duties.

Despite what the final score says, the Oakland Raiders again could have come away victorious had a few questionable decisions been well thought out and assessed. With week four on the horizon the Raiders cannot afford to make the same mistakes again.
