The safety position in Oakland is currently being manned by Marcus Gilchrist and Reggie Nelson, so it is obvious this team need some good, young talent. In Deionte Thompson, they would be getting the best overall safety prospect in this draft class, and a person who could come right in and make an impact in year one.

The Raiders drafted Karl Joseph in the first round in 2016, but all signs point to the team being done with him, and him not being a part of their future. Even if they do keep Joseph around, it is going to be very difficult for the Raiders to pass on a safety in the first round, especially if Thompson is available to them in the mid-to-late first round selections.
