Richard is a major factor

After the injury to Marshawn Lynch it was widely assumed that Doug Martin would take the lead back duties going forward, but many agreed that Jalen Richard’s contributions would be vital to the success of the running game. Sunday against Arizona proved to be evidence of that belief.

Richard finished the day as the leading rusher with 61 yards on 11 carries, a great contribution to Martin’s 10 carries for 52 yards. Though Richard did have a fumble, he also played double duties with 32 yards in the receiving game.

Richard’s skill set as a change-of-pace back cannot be overlooked, and his play on Sunday should warrant more snaps and more contributions in the offensive game plan. Look for him to again be involved heavily next week as they face a tough challenge on the road against the Ravens defense.
