Raiders fire Reggie McKenzie
Raider Nation woke up to the fact that the franchise had fired general manager Reggie McKenzie, who took over in his role back in 2012. McKenzie took over quite the mess during that 2012 offseason, inherting a roster with bloated contracts, and a draft where he would not get to pick until the third round.
Somehow, McKenzie was able to shape the roster into a 12-win team by the 2016 season, thanks to drafting guys like Khalil Mack, Amari Cooper, Derek Carr, and Gabe Jackson to name a few. While he never had too much success with free agency, he did do enough to bring the franchise their first winning season since 2002, though many expected that the 2018 season would be his last at the helm.
McKenzie was reportedly given the option to stay on for the rest of the season, but clearly, that did not happen. The Raiders will now look for his replacement, and while it could be another general manager, it is possible that Jon Gruden and company decide to let him have a Bill Belichick-type role moving forward.
