Jon Gruden approves

If anybody is going to join the Oakland Raiders franchise, they will have to get the stamp of approval from Jon Gruden, who had nothing but great things to say about Mayock on Sunday. He described Mayock as a “passionate personnel guy” to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, stating that “he loves the game.”

In Mayock, the Raiders will be bringing in a general manager who knows how to evaluate talent, and that has been an area where Gruden has had blurred vision in the past. Now that Mayock has the job, he must have interviewed well with Gruden, who, like Mayock, was signed on New Years Eve last year.

This is going to be a rebuilding process, but you have to like the fact that the Raiders have brought in someone who is not going to just sit there and let Gruden do what he wants. Sure, Gruden is an excellent head coach, but he has had his struggles with player personnel, which is exactly what Mayock has been brought in to fix.
