Deionte Thompson – Safety, Alabama

At the moment the Raiders do not have any game changers on their defense. They only forced 17 turnovers this year and do not put very much fear into offenses. Alabama safety Deionte Thompson could change that in a big way for Oakland and help solidify the deep middle of the field. He has great closing speed on routes and plays fast and aggressive not only in coverage but in the run game as well.

Clemson has become Wide Receiver U so Thompson will definitely be tested by their passing game. If he shines tonight, it will go a big way in solidifying his first round status.

He is only a redshirt junior so he could stay in school, but in a weaker safety class, it’ll be hard to pass up. A lot of teams will likely question if Thompson’s skin frame will hold up, but that could be great news for the Raiders as he could fall further than he should.

They do not have a free safety with Thompson’s skill set on the roster at the moment and should take a hard look at him if he’s available at the end of the first round.
