2. Jim Plunkett, Super Bowl XV
Another one of those Raiders who deserves to be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Jim Plunkett played his best football with the game on the line. The quarterback for two of the Raiders Super Bowl victories, Plunkett lands on our list as having the No. 2 best performance of any Raider in their Super Bowl history based on his efforts in Super Bowl XV.
During that game, Plunkett got the Raiders off to a hot start, tossing two first quarter touchdown passes to put the team up 14-0. Once they had the lead, they never looked back, cruising to a 32-14 victory over the Minnesota Vikings, who came into the game with one of the better defenses in NFL history.
Plunkett was named the game’s MVP, after setting a Super Bowl record in passer rating, as well as connecting with Kenny King for a Super Bowl record 80-yard touchdown. He became the first minority quarterback to win the Super Bowl, is the only Latino to ever win the big game, and became the second Heisman Trophy winning quarterback to be named MVP. Pretty good day for No. 16.
