Free agency: Top 5 needs for the Oakland Raiders to address
By Brad Weiss
3. Safety
Last season, Karl Joseph finally started to look like a first round draft pick, and will be expected to lead this defensive secondary, alongside Gareon Conley, moving forward. Joseph, unfortunately, is the only safety on the current roster that is not a free agent, so this position group could look a lot different in 2019.
Erik Harris was another player who exceeded expectations in 2018, and the team should seriously consider bringing him back. In free agency, the Raiders could go out and get a safety from a handful of talented players like Earl Thomas, Tyrann Mathieu, and LaMarcus Joyner, three free safeties that would compliment Joseph at strong safety perfectly.
The 2019 NFL Draft class does not have much talent at this position group, as only two or so prospects are even rated as first round talents. It is certainly possible that the Raiders roll the dice on a player like Deionte Thompson, Nasir Adderley, or Taylor Rapp in the first round, but this free agency class is loaded.
