What Mayock said

The narrative surrounding quarterback Derek Carr since Jon Gruden took over as head coach has been that the team will plan to move on from him. In fact, it seems like that noise has ratcheted up since the season ended, as the Raiders hold a very early draft pick in April, and there are some first round quarterback available.

On Wednesday, Mike Mayock stated it would be hard to upgrade from Carr, and on Thursday, Gruden doubled-down. Gruden stated that Carr is not only “A” franchise quarterback, but “Our” franchise quarterback, which should hopefully put to rest all of the talk of the Raiders moving in a new direction at the position.

Sure, Gruden has said things in the past, and gone the other way, but this united front between Mayock and Gruden suggests Carr is here to stay. Carr has the opportunity to re-write the Raiders record book in 2019, and the hope is, the team sees enough in him that he is the man going forward.
