Dre’Mont Jones – Defensive Tackle, Ohio State

It seemed like every Ohio State players blew up the combine except for Dre’Mont Jones. Once thought of as a late first-round pick, Jones proved to be a decidedly below average athlete. And what makes it worse is that he weighed in at only 280 as a defensive tackle. Ed Oliver who has continuously been criticized for his lack of size was 287 which makes Jones even more undersized as an interior d-linemen.

So if he isn’t a great athlete and is lacking required weight and strength to play to position then what do you really have with him?

As an Ohio State fan, I watched Jones produced at a very high for the Buckeyes, so the talent to rush the passer is undoubtedly there. However, there are certain athletic thresholds you need to hit a majority of the time to be productive in the league and Jones didn’t pass them this weekend. Like everyone else in the down category, Jones needs to be excellent on his pro day, or he could fall even more past the second round.
