Oakland Raiders expected to add Trent Brown in free agency

The Oakland Raiders lost a big piece of their offensive line on Sunday, and on Monday, they added one in the person of Trent Brown.
The Oakland Raiders are not wasting any time this free agency period, as they will reportedly sign one of the best offensive tackles in football on Wednesday. Former New England Patriots left tackle Trent Brown is apparently going to be donning the Silver and Black in 2019 and beyond, as the Raiders opened their check book for him on Monday.
In Brown, the Raiders add to a tackle position that certainly needed help, as they rolled with two rookie tackles in 2018. Last year’s first round pick, Kolton Miller, will remain on the starting offensive line, but Schefter later reported that he will move to the right side with Brown coming in.
The Raiders are giving Brown left tackle money, as it is becoming ever so clear that the team plans to build around Derek Carr. Excitement is starting to build around this team, and the Raiders are beginning to revamp this roster in a big way.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted this out around noon on Monday.

Of course, nothing is in stone until Wednesday, when the new league year officially begins. If Brown is heading to Oakland, this is another big move for first-year general manager Mike Mayock, who looks to have a knack for this whole GM thing.

Brown’s deal will make him the highest paid offensive lineman in NFL history, and for the Raiders, they may decide to part ways with veteran Donald Penn after this move. Releasing Penn would free up a ton of money from the salary cap in 2019, and with plenty more holes to fill, the Raiders are going to need as much cap space as possible.
