Oakland Raiders set to add safety LaMarcus Joyner

The Oakland Raiders continue to make moves to bolster their roster for 2019 and beyond, as they are expected to add safety LaMarcus Joyner.

The Oakland Raiders are not messing around this offseason, and on Monday, they reportedly agreed to sign former Los Angeles Rams safety LaMarcus Joyner. In a loaded safety class, Joyner is one of the better free safeties available, and will likely join Karl Joseph in the starting lineup next season.

For Joyner, his new deal with the Silver and Black was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who broke the news on Monday night. Joyner was a second round pick of the Los Angeles Rams back in 2014, and has spent his whole career with the franchise.

With plenty of holes on the roster heading into this offseason, the Raiders and new general manager Mike Mayock have been striking deal after deal. First, they traded a third and fifth round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers for Antonio Brown, and then went out and signed the biggest offensive line free agent in Trent Brown.

While the focus had been on the offense early in the offseason, this is a huge addition to the defensive backfield, as Joyner can flat out play. He set a career-high with 15 starts last season, nabbing one interception, while helping the Rams make it all the way to the Super Bowl.

All these deals will not be official until the new league year begins on Wednesday. Joyner’s deal is expect to be four years at $10.5 million per as per Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.

Oakland already has two safeties under contract, as they were able to lock up Erik Harris to an extension late last week. The team now has three very good safeties in the fold for next season, as they continue to bolster their defensive backfield heading into 2019.
