The Oakland Raiders continue to shape their roster for 2019, adding backup quarterback Mike Glennon, and safety Curtis Riley on Friday.

This Oakland Raiders roster is going to look a lot different in 2019, as Mike Mayock and company continue to add new faces to the team. On Friday, the Raiders kicked off their day by adding a safety, as former New York Giants defensive back Curtis Riley was signed.

Later in the day, Oakland brought in a true backup quarterback for Derek Carr, signing former NFL starter Mike Glennon. Once considered a legitimate starter in the league, Glennon will now serve as the No. 2 on this roster behind Carr, giving the team a reliable option in that role.

Riley began his career in Tennessee, playing for the Titans over his first two years in the NFL. Last season, he started all 16 games for the Giants, playing as their free safety alongside Landon Collins, who also will not be back with the G-Men in 2019.

In 2018, Riley picked off four passes, while also logging five passes defended. While he does struggle when it comes to tackling, he is a solid addition to this secondary, which plans to use newly signed safety Lamarcus Joyner in more of a slot corner role this season.

With Glennon in the fold, Nathan Peterman moves to the No. 3 quarterback on the roster, which is where he should be at this point in his career. Glennon is a solid backup to Carr, who is looking to put together another solid season in year two in Jon Gruden’s offense.

Mayock has done a nice job in his first season as a general manager, bringing in talented players to the team, and really improving the roster. The Raiders still have a ton of draft capital heading into next month’s draft, so this group could really surprise some people this Fall.
