Oakland Raiders fill QB room with signing of Landry Jones

The Oakland Raiders may be done adding quarterbacks now, as they signed free agent signal-caller Landry Jones on Monday.

The Oakland Raiders continue to bring in veteran quarterbacks this offseason, as they signed Landry Jones in free agency on Tuesday. Jones comes to the Raiders after spending his entire NFL career as the backup to Ben Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh, where he appeared in 19 games, while starting five.

Last year, Jones did not make a single appearance for the first time in his career, a span of six seasons. In Oakland, he will be battling it out with Mike Glennon and Nathan Peterman, with the goal being earning the No. 2 quarterback job behind Pro Bowler Derek Carr.

Glennon is new to the Silver and Black as well, as he joined the team last week, and it looked like the Raiders could be done adding to the position. Jones brings with him solid skills at the quarterback position, and could be the one to come out of this battle with the job.

Oakland does hold the No. 4 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, so the fact that they are working out, and interviewing the top quarterbacks in the draft class makes sense. They have their guy in Carr, and in Jones, Glennon, and Peterman, there are enough warm bodies in the quarterback room to be done adding players to  the mix at this point.

Last season, Oakland went into the summer with guys like Connor Cook and E.J. Manuel battling it out for the backup job, and ended up trading for A.J. McCarron at the end of camp to back up Carr. You never know how this will all play out, but Jones is a pretty solid backup quarterback, and he brings more competition against Glennon than Peterman does at this point in their NFL careers.
