The Oakland Raiders added another quarterback to the mix last week, signing Mike Glennon to compete for the backup job behind Derek Carr.
The Oakland Raiders have been rumored to be in the market for one of this year’s NFL Draft quarterbacks, but that has pretty much been ruled out at this point. Head coach Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock have been pretty consistent in their backing of Derek Carr, which is the smart move for this franchise moving forward.
Looking ahead to 2019, the Raiders have added two veterans to the fold behind Carr, bringing in Mike Glennon last week, and Landry Jones this week. Glennon is a guy who the Chicago Bears brought in to be their starting quarterback for 2017, but he was quickly replaced by rookie Mitchell Trubisky after a terrible start.
Last season, Glennon played for the Arizona Cardinals, but served as the backup to rookie Josh Rosen. In Oakland, he will have to battle it out with Jones, and Nathan Peterman if he wants to latch on for the 2019 campaign, and it is anybody’s guess as to who will actually open as the No. 2 guy for the Silver and Black.
Here are the contract details, national reaction, and grade for the Mike Glennon signing.

Mike Glennon has been given the opportunity to start at the NFL level on a few occasions, but that will not be the case in Oakland. The Raiders have their guy in Derek Carr, so the hope is that Glennon can serve as a reliable backup behind No. 4 for at least the 2019 NFL season.
Oakland also added Landry Jones to the fray on March 26, so Glennon is going to have to battle just to make this team. Glennon has proven to be a good backup in the past, but if Carr goes down in 2019, this team is in a lot of trouble.
