The Oakland Raiders need help on the edge this upcoming season, and could find an incredibly talent player this April in Mississippi State’s Montez Sweat.

The fireworks of free agency may have ended, but teams are restocking for the next show on April 25, and the Oakland Raiders are no different. The NFL Draft is only a month away, so teams are doing their due diligence on players by attending their Pro Days.

Teams will be meeting with players leading up to the draft, trying to figure out where they are going to use their draft picks. There are some incredibly talent players in this draft class that can fill the Oakland Raiders need on the edge, including Mississippi State’s Montez Sweat.

Sweat got to know head coach Jon Gruden during the Senior Bowl, where he was a member of the North Team, which Gruden coached. While he isn’t a realistic option at pick No. 4, Sweat could definitely be a target at 24, the pick they got by trading away former edge rusher Khalil Mack.

The Raiders are obviously in desperate need of a pass rush. Drafting Sweat should improve the team in that category. If not at 24, then the team could be a potential trade up candidate, as this is a position that needs to be addressed..

Anything can happen in the Draft. It’s why Jon Gruden is meeting with most of the quarterbacks in the draft. It would be foolish not to. While rumors have swirled that the team could be interested in drafting Kyler Murray or Dwayne Haskins, that seems like a longshot, considering they have a franchise quarterback in Derek Carr.

The more digging they can do the better. That way they don’t get caught like a deer in headlights when that player is available when it’s their turn. Sweat would be an awesome addition for the Raiders. We’ll see in a month if the chips fall accordingly for them to take him.
