The Oakland Raiders added a new weapon to the wide receiver group on Wednesday, signing former Indianapolis Colts wideout Ryan Grant.
The Oakland Raiders continue to bring in new talent at the wide receiver position, signing former Indianapolis Colts wideout Ryan Grant on Wednesday. Grant played the 2018 NFL season as a member of the Colts after starting his career out with the Washington Redskins, who he played with for four seasons.
Grant joins a wide receiver group that has been completely revamped this offseason, starting with one of the best in the game in Antonio Brown. Brown came to the Raiders via a trade early on in the new league year, and has since been followed by the likes of Tyrell Williams and J.J. Nelson.
Those guys give Derek Carr his best weapons at the position he has had since becoming the Raiders starting quarterback in 2014. With the addition of Grant, who started ten games for a playoff team last season, Carr and the Raiders have some serious depth at wide receiver entering the 2019 NFL Draft.
In 2018, Grant appeared in 14 games, after making an appearance in every game in his four seasons in Washington. A spot-starter with the Redskins, Grant was more of a starter for Andrew Luck and company last year, and finished with 334 yards, his second-highest total of his NFL career.
Grant’s best season came in 2017, when he set career highs in receptions (45), receiving yards (573), and touchdowns (4).
With the signing of Grant, the Raiders may be in line to cut Seth Roberts, who is slated to make a chunk of money this season. The 2019 NFL Draft class has some solid names in it as well, but Grant has a serious chance to make this roster as a fourth wide receiver behind Brown, Williams, and Nelson.
