Versatility

Not only can Fant play in-line with his hand in the ground, but he can also split out wide, in the slot, or as an H-back and win in space. In the video below against Indiana Fant made multiple plays while playing as basically a big wide receiver and tracked the ball beautifully. This type of versatility could allow the Raiders to use him in many different personnel packages and keep him on the field as much as possible.

Here’s another example against Purdue where they actually run a bubble screen for Fant, and he shows off that elite athleticism.

Gruden played Cook in the slot or out wide on 45% of his snaps in 2018, so he definitely sees the value in moving guys around to find the mismatch.

However, with added skill players like Antonio Brown and Tyrell Williams, Fant would likely be going against a defender that is nowhere near his talent level, and it could be an easy pitch and catch for him and Carr.
