Las Vegas Raiders: 15 best draft-day steals of all-time

How about another AFL player from the Raiders’ infancy? Back in 1968, the Raiders selected Marv Hubbard in the 11th round of the AFL Draft.

Although he did not make it in the league immediately, the Raiders still ended up benefiting from Hubbard’s talent. Cut twice before sticking, the Raiders had to use a reserve clause to bring him back.

Hubbard wound up spending seven seasons with the Raiders, primarily serving as their fullback. Drafted out of Colgate University, Hubbard was a relative unknown and the expectations surrounding him were rather low. Clearly, things panned out well, as Hubbard eclipsed his draft value and paid huge dividends for the franchise.

In 90 games as a member of the Silver and Black, Hubbard rushed for 4,394 yards, good enough for fifth all-time in franchise history. He tacked on 22 touchdowns and finished his career with an absurd 4.8 yards per carry, 13th all-time in league history.

Going from an 11th-round pick (there were 17 rounds back then) to becoming one of the franchise’s all-time leading rushers is quite a feat. A three-time Pro-Bowler and a one-time Super Bowl champion, Hubbard is one of the Raiders’ best draft-day steals. He should be remembered as one of the best rushers in team history.
